The civil use of autonomous robots is often hindered by technical safety aspects. However, if these can be addressed successfully then very large new opportunities for their commercialization exist. In addition, the technological side has also development needs to fulfill the requirements for special application scenarios. For example, it is required to provide robust and reliable integrated navigation and communication systems, which permit a permanently safe operation of the robot. Appropriate man-machine interfaces must be developed, which permit a simple and error-free operation to enable the utilization for the potential user. SiNafaR is used to develop methods and processes for these requirements to permit the use of cooperating air and ground robots in civil applications. The project is implemented together with Fraunhofer IIS, University of Würzburg, EADS Deutschland GmbH and Wilkon e.K.
